Day 20: A Little Sunday Jog

Sunday, July 26, 2009

Marathon Day…. I woke up at 3:45 a.m. to join 20,000 other runners participating in the San Francisco Marathon. Wearing my Recreation and Park Department/Love Your Parks running shirt, custom-made by the Parks Trust, I crossed the starting line at Embarcadero around 5:30 a.m.

My 26.2-mile journey took me through or near 10 Recreation and Park Department parks and facilities including: Justin Herman Plaza, Sue Bierman Park, Marina Green, Golden Gate Park, Buena Vista Park, Koshland Park, Franklin Square, McKinley Park and Esprit Park.

I finished in three hours and 37 minutes and, thanks to the Neighborhood Parks Council, we raised a little bit of money for some simple park improvements being suggested by park users.

Unable to climb play structures, hills, steps or even curbs after the run....but it was well worth it.
